Alright. So, as we enter into the New Year I find myself at something of a loss. Whereas last year we were busy in pre-production on ONUS, and the year before Follow the Crows was still taking up a lot of time, this year things are sort of quiet and there's not an awful lot for me to do, actively, to produce work. At least, not yet.
So, I'm going to use this opportunity to break down what is coming this year and some of my hopes.
Follow the Crows will be getting a release this year. I can't give a definitive date on that, but we're aiming at getting it out there as soon as possible. The film has had an absolutely incredible response on the festival circuit and we're now looking at proper release strategies and ways to get it out to as wide an audience as possible. At the moment this is looking like to be Video On Demand (VOD) distribution to streaming sites like Amazon Prime, Vudu and Google Play, but we're still hoping those hard copies will be available one way or another, potentially through a store online somewhere, but we'll keep you posted on that one.
ONUS will be edited and will begin its own festival run. This is now the second time round on this front so we're more experienced, less naive and we have a good idea of what to expect. This (hopefully) means that ONUS will be read for a similar distribution to Follow the Crows at the start of 2020, although I'm keen not to make any promises on this front as who knows what's going to happen between then and now, right? Anyway, one way or another the edit will happen and we'll be sending off around the world.
I'm going to release another book. He Was Dead has been alone for far too long and needs a friend to keep it company. I'm not settled on whether or not this will be a collection of shorts in the same vein as He Was Dead (She Was Dead, anyone?) or a full narrative work, but it's definitely going to be something. I'm determined to get at least something out there this year. I'm leaning more toward the narrative work because, well, I just really want to release a full length book, but we'll have to wait and see what happens, I guess. I've got some ideas twirling around.
There will also be some short films, because if not then I'll cry. I need to get back out there and experiment with cinema once more. ONUS was great, and I love making feature lengths, but shorts are an opportunity to do things you can't do anywhere else and I really want to make some. In fact, I want to make some right now. Let's get on with it!
Speaking of features, of course, I'd quite like to start looking into whatever the third one is going to be. I have a few ideas (and even a couple of scripts), but I'd like to try my hand and something different yet again.
Theatre needs to make a come back as well. I've written a play, and I'm in the process of writing another one, so I'd really like to get to work on putting them on in the near future. I've been bitten by the theatre bug, it would seen, and it's shameful I haven't done anything on this front since the door. I really, really need to get cracking here.
So, there you have it. A brief overview of what I'm going to be trying to get done this year. The blog will be the key place for in-depth updates on these projects, as well as general musings, thoughts and whatever else takes my fancy, so keep an eye out for that, and I hope you all had a super great break over the Holidays - back to the real world, as they say!
